What are the different types of Facelift Surgery?

Dr. Nilesh Satbhai offers the following types of facelift surgery:

• Traditional facelift: Also called a “full” facelift, this involves making an incision from the temple to the back of the ear. Traditional facelifts have the most drastic results and address the majority of signs of aging.

• Mini facelift: This type of facelift involves making smaller incisions than a traditional facelift. The incision begins at the hairline, goes down and around the front ear, but does not go behind the ear as in a traditional facelift.

How is Facelift surgery performed?

• The procedure begins with an incision in the hairline near the temples. The incision then runs forward, hugging the earlobe, then behind the ears, into the lower scalp.
• If the patient requires a mini facelift due to minimal sagging or laxity of skin, a mini facelift is performed. A mini facelift involves a shorter or limited incision that begins in the hairline and continues around the ear without extending beyond it.
• When performing a neck lift, the incision begins in the front of the earlobe and proceeds to the lower scalp. A small cut is made under the chin as well.
• During the surgery, underlying facial muscles and connective tissues are tightened, as well as any surplus fat or loose skin from the face is removed.
• Dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions. Skin glues are sometimes utilized to close these incisions as well.

How is recovery after a Facelift?

• During the healing phase, you’ll be given specific instructions on caring for surgical sites and your general health, as well as painkillers to reduce your discomfort.
• You may be using bandages to treat swelling and bruising on your face. A surgical tube is also used to aid in the reduction of swelling and the removal of excess blood.
• A few days later, the bandages will be changed, or you may even be able to use an elasticized facial sling.
• Permanent scarring will occur; however, these scars will be in the hairline and therefore not noticeable.
